Privacy
ChemSafe is a tool that scans product packaging photos to identify ingredients. This page explains what the app collects and how it is used.
What we collect
When you scan a product, the app sends the photo to Google Cloud Vision (via our own server) to read the text. We do not store your photos. They are processed and discarded.
We keep two anonymous counters: the total number of scans performed, and an approximate count of unique users. To count unique users, a random identifier is stored in your browser. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, location, or any personal information, and we cannot use it to identify you.
If you choose to submit the optional feedback form, we receive your rating and any comments you write, along with the anonymous identifier described above.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, or any account information. We do not use advertising trackers. We do not sell or share data with third parties beyond the OCR processing described above.
Third-party services
Photos are processed by Google Cloud Vision for text recognition. The app is hosted on Netlify, and OCR requests pass through Cloudflare. Each of these services has its own privacy practices.
Photos and image processing
Your photo is sent for text recognition only and is not retained by ChemSafe. The scan result (ingredient list and any flagged chemicals) is shown to you in your browser and is not stored on our servers.
Accuracy disclaimer
ChemSafe is provided for informational purposes only. Ingredient detection depends on photo quality and may be incomplete or incorrect. A result showing no flagged chemicals does not guarantee a product is safe. Always consult product labels and qualified professionals for health decisions.
Clearing your data
You can remove the anonymous identifier at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.
